Bette Davis Eyes

Bette Davis Eyes

So with all the hoopla about eyelashes in general at the moment, I got to thinking about mine.

I have blonde eyelashes, which is a desperate situation to be in if you want the lovely long lash look – mainly because no one can see them!  So I have always, always worn mascara.  And it has always, always been black mascara.

I have never had a bottle of mascara that wasn’t black, or very black, or the blackest of black mascara.
But then, the other day I was reading a blog interview where someone with luscious eyelashes swears by brown black mascara.

What?  I always thought that brown black mascara was for toning down your eyelashes, not maxing them up, but then I got thinking.  I have to admit, that when I don’t have any other eye make up on, and am wearing just blackest of black mascara, my lashes can look a bit, dare I say it, spider- leggy.

They do tend to stick out and if I’m not extremely careful when applying the black mascara, they can have huge clumps stuck to them – not a good look.

So perhaps brown black mascara is the way forward.  With summer here and minimal makeup the order of the day, brown black mascara could provide me with all the lushness of full lashes without looking like a spider got squished on my eye!  (Oh the mental image you must have now)

I did a little more research into this whole, brown black mascara and y’know who else was a firm advocate?  Bette Davis.  As in, the Bette Davis from the song ‘Bette Davis Eyes’ that old 80’s classic.  So if brown black mascara was enough to inspire a song about her eyes, then it’s enough to get me to give a tube of brown mascara a go.

Over in the shop we have some Lancome L’Extreme Brun lengthening mascara.  I’m going to try that and I might even give a sweep of my trusty o’black mascara over the top.  I’m assured that blue eyes get bluer with brown mascara so it might be a good day time look.

How about you?  Are you a black mascara girl, a brown mascara girl or are you already one of the brown black mascara brigade?
